Winter Workshop Series
2026 is the year to organize your family history and preserve it for future generations!
The Winter Workshop Series offers several skill-building sessions on various popular topics over several weeks. Join the winter workshop series to learn:
- How to organize and archive your family history files, digital and paper.
- Methods and research planning to tackle those stubborn, brick walls.
- Using genealogy software to gather, write, and share family history.
- How to incorporate family and other events to preserve history.
Note: Courses are limited in room size to allow individualized participation and are scheduled in the evenings, as many prior students have requested. Seats for individual courses may be limited due to full session seating.
Winter Workshop Series includes:
- WWS1 — Organize & Prep Your Genealogy Research [2 sessions — 19 & 26 Feb 2026]
- WWS2 — Erasing Stubborn Brick Walls [3 sessions — 12 & 19 & 26 March 2026]
- WWS3 — Using RootsMagicTM to Write, Share, & Preserve Your Family’s Story [3 sessions — 2 & 9 & 16 April 2026]
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Instructor: LaDonna Garner, M.A.
Cost: $30-120 per adult participant
Virtual Classroom Time (Evening Session): Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. CST to 8:00 p.m. on Zoom
Class Dates: vary from February through April 2026. See class listing for specific session dates.
- Workshop session evenings are 1 – 1/2 hours in length of instruction, discussion, and skill building. (Total of 8 hours)
- Each participant will receive personalized research assistance from the instructor about their research goals.
- Login registration information for entry into the Zoom classroom will be forwarded after your purchase.
- Workbooks and/or handouts will be forwarded as PDFs via email 7 to 14 days before the start of each session.
- Sessions will be recorded for participants’ on-demand viewing access to review and/or complete assignments.
- #Students are required to, at a minimum, own or download a version of the RootsMagicTM program and install it before the start of class on their computers. Note: While there is a demo version, the purchased version is recommended to make use of all its tools.
Students who complete this course will be able to apply techniques learned to:
- Organize research files (digital and paper) in various options.
- Draft and implement a research goal map to begin and/or revitalize current projects starting with known information and documentation to build a family tree.
- Setup and navigate RootsMagicTM and options to compile family stories.
- Methodically determine and tackle brick walls for ancestors and family branches.
- Research tips and strategies to further family history through online resources.
