Step #1
- Verification Search — $5 (file verification only)
- Purchase a Search to verify if a Military Service Record or Civil War Pension file is available at NARA St. Louis.
- Fill and forward the name, service dates, birth & death dates, and/or C or XC pension card via email.
- Search fee is non-refundable, no file included.
- Average request time: 2 to 8 weeks; depends greatly on NARA St. Louis’s availability.
- If a file is located (Positive) — File Requests
- We will notify you of a positive file, set an appointment, and digitize the entirety of case file.
- If a file is not located (Negative)**
- We will notify you via email of a negative search. Search fee is non-refundable.
Step #2
- Military Service Case File (OMPF) Record Request* — $65+
- $65 per first 100 pages (front and back if applicable for approx. 200 images).
- Additional pages fee will apply. Reconstructed service files may be limited in scope.*
- $5 search fee credit may apply.
- Digital scans will be taken and forwarded electronically in PDF.
- Average request time: 2 to 8 weeks; depends greatly on NARA St. Louis’s availability.
- Civil War Pension Case File Request (NARA STL only) ** — $75+
- $75 per first 100 pages (200 images), additional page fee will apply. Large files may be an additional cost.
- $5 search fee credit may apply.
- Digital scans will be taken and forwarded electronically in PDF.
- Average request time: 2 to 8 weeks; depends greatly on NARA St. Louis’s availability.
- Microfilmed Documents Request (Morning reports, Pay Slips) — $65+
- $65 per 1-hour microfilm onsite search request (Non-Refundable).
- No search fee necessary.
- Photocopies or Digital scans will be taken and forwarded electronically in PDF.
- There are no refunds if documents are unavailable, as the search was conducted.

- Invoice for total costs & download link

- An invoice with total costs minus search fee according to file request (see below) will be forwarded via email.

* Did you know the Personnel Record Center had a disastrous fire in 1973? Some service records are reconstructions to ensure veterans receive their benefits. Learn more about the fire.
** Civil War Pension Files not located in NARA St. Louis may be in another facility, e.g., the Veterans Administration or NARA DC.
Note: A prepaid transaction cancellation will be refunded for store credit on future requests or by check via mail — minus the negative request fee, if applicable, if a negative file is noted at NARA St. Louis (National Personnel Record Center, St. Louis).
